The World Land Trust (WLT) is an international conservation charity, based in Halesworth, a rural town in Suffolk, England. Since its foundation in 1989, World Land Trust funds partner NGOs in developing countries for land purchase and protection in order to conserve wildlife and biodiversity and so far it has helped to purchase and protects over 400,000 acres of habitats rich in wildlife, in Asia, Central and South America.


The World Land Trust is a member of IUCN - the World Conservation Union, and all its projects are carried out with local non-government organisations (NGOs).


Grant Programs –


The World Land Trust provides funding for the initial acquisition of land.  It also funds additional activities related to protection, biodiversity monitoring, education and outreach, habitat restoration, and species reintroduction.


The World Land Trust grant making activities are focused to Developing Countries worldwide. The WLT's current priorities for active support are Malaysia, India, Kenya, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Mexico.

Criteria to become a WLT partner are:


(1) The organisation should be a legally constituted non-governmental organisation (NGO). (2) The NGO must be a national or local organisation, based in the country where their projects take place. (3) In general, project partners should be based in a developing country, as this is where the Trust generally provides support. (4) The NGO should have wildlife conservation as its primary objective. (5) The organisation must have experience of managing conservation projects, preferably involving land protection and sustainable management of resources.
